Summary of the job:

Capable of providing high-quality midwifery care to patients in the hospital through modeling, teaching, observing, crisis intervention, problem resolution, good communication, and teamwork. Monitor and maintain compliance with MLMCC& MLUs protocols and midwifery standards.

Job responsibility:

Before, during, and after childbirth, midwives give guidance, care, and support to women, their partners, and their families. They assist women in making their own choices regarding the kind of care and services they get. They provide health education and parental assistance to newborn youngsters for the first 28 days of their lives. Midwives are directly responsible for both mother and child’s health and only refer to doctors if complications arise.

  • Respectfully provide maternal care to the patient.
  • For both day and night shifts, arrive to work on time.
  • Take part in the morning report:
  • Later part midwives must provide a detailed report on the patients and events that happened during the shift to oncoming midwives.
  • The night shift midwife should stay until the morning report is completed.
  • Continue to work until the relief shift comes and is completely updated.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and accurate medical record for each patient, and file it properly.
  • Maintain the patient panel up to date and pertinent information placed on it.
  • Accept new patients, diagnose labor, fill up labor admission papers correctly, and request necessary lab screens according to MLMCC&MLUs guidelines.
  • Indicates a high births and emergency cases, performing resuscitation procedures, and referring to the affiliated institutions as soon as possible.
  • Monitor the status of the foetus while supervising and supporting women in labor, and use knowledge of labor support and pain management abilities in accordance with advanced midwifery care protocol and practice.
  • Determine the seriousness of the problem and refer to a tertiary hospital.
  • Start IVs, deliver the baby using sterile method, manage the third stage with usual IM oxytocin, conduct endometrial biopsy, suture lacerations, and chart on the Partograph and Labor and Delivery Summary.
  • In the Birth Register Book, keep clear, complete entries of all deliveries.
  • In the Delivery Set, disinfect, clean, wash, pack, and sterilize equipment.
  • During the second stage of labor, manage difficult vaginal births with on-call and supervisory assistance, including vacuum extraction and shoulder dystocia.
  • Continuously monitor labor progress, including vital signs, pelvic examinations, foetal heart rate monitoring, and partograph charting.
  • Conduct normal newborn care, such as bulb suctioning, drying, assigning APGAR scores, weighting, measuring length and body height, monitoring vital signs, giving Vitamin K i.m. and Tetracycline eye ointment, putting on an ID band, and dressing the baby.
  • Provide normal medical assistance, such as monitoring the mother’s and baby’s vital signs, monitoring the mother’s input and output, starting and aiding with breastfeeding, and charting.
  • Before being released, refer babies to the clinic for vaccinations.
  • Educate them on breastfeeding, warning signals, new-born care, and family planning during their postpartum stay, if feasible with the participation of the father.
  • Women, families, and the community are counseled and educated on topics such as cleanliness, family planning, nutrition, warning signals, birthing preparation, and parenting.
  • IYCF (infant and young child feeding) essential themes should be discussed with the moms.
  • Every shift, check the supply and medicine stock, make a list of what’s needed, and order from stock or refer to the Midwife Supervisor.
  • In all parts of your employment, follow infection prevention rules and procedures.
  • All maternity workers should share their knowledge, skills, and expertise.
  • Encourage family members to participate in the birth in order to assist the mother and improve both mother-baby bonding and family ties.
  • Report any issues or incidents to the midwife supervisor on a regular basis.
  • Participate in MLMCC project / hospital directorate trainings.
  • Evaluate the possibility of referring pregnant women to the appropriate center/facilities.
  • Ascertain that the patient’s privacy and confidentiality are protected.
  • Cases with psychological issues should be referred to the specialist psychosocial consulate.
  • Examine and do the quick diagnostic tests (syphilis, hemoglobin, protein curia, etc.)

Job requirements:

  • A registered midwife with a bachelor’s degree is recommended.
  • Five years of experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • The applicants should have ability to communicate in Dari/Pashtu, both in writing and orally, is required.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, is desirable.
  • Two favorable references from prior employers or educators are required.
  • Ability to speak clearly and collaborate well in a team setting
