Job Description:
The Assistant Engineer’s role is to support the Field Officer in carrying out the project and make sure that the implementation strategy and process are followed.
- Assist the site engineer and field officer in assessing the hamlet and choosing suitable sites for water points, latrines, baths, and hand-washing facilities.
- Field excursions and recurring monthly GWM well monitoring.
- Resolving technical issues with hand pumps (GWM Walls) and maintaining the functionality of the monitoring wells.
- Help lab technicians collect water samples for bacteriological and chemical examination.
- Writing up monthly reports on groundwater monitoring wells and providing a brief description of the state of the monitoring wells with higher water fluctuation.
- The location of new groundwater monitoring wells and their modification.
- Test kits for pH and conductivity are calibrated.
- Maintain the measurement equipment’s functionality.
- Installation of a CTD diver and barometer on groundwater monitoring wells and maintenance of the installed instrument’s operational safety.
- Verify the raw materials’ quality on the job site.
- Monitor the curing of concrete parts and concrete construction.
- Support for the Field Officer and follow-up water quality testing for newly constructed and renovated water stations.
- Make sure the drinking water is provided in accordance with the written contract by thoroughly monitoring and following up on the distribution process.
- Track the number of miles driven by vehicles and the number of hours that drilling rigs and generators have been functioning.
- Keep a daily log of the project’s advancement.
- Assign tools, trucks, and skilled workers to the project’s daily tasks.
- Aid the Field Officer in enlisting community support for the initiative.
- If there are no existing trained mechanics in the neighborhood, assist the Field Officer in training a new mechanic or valve man while collecting mechanic salaries during the installation of the hand pump or stand post.
- The holder of this job is required to carefully adhere to the organization’s current security policies, procedures, and daily instructions of the safety professionals.
- The supervisor assigns any other tasks.
Job requirements:
Education:
- A BSc in civil engineering from an accredited university is necessary.
Experience:
- Two (2) years working with NGOs on WASH-related projects.

- Dari, Pashto, and English are all spoken.
