About

Under the plan, 20,000 Afghan citizens are expected to settle in Britain. The Home Office has called the program “the most ambitious” in the world.

The ministry emphasized that those who supported British efforts in Afghanistan and defended values such as democracy, women’s rights, freedom of expression, and the rule of law were at the forefront of the agenda. “Extremely vulnerable” people, including women and girls and members of minority groups, are also included in the program.

However, the Home Office added that those who plan to reside in the UK through the program will undergo rigorous security checks.

Britain ousted more than 15,000 Afghans during a military evacuation operation in Afghanistan from August 15 to 30. The 20,000 people who will be relocated to the UK in the future are separate from the 15,000 who have already been evacuated.

On the other hand, the German Foreign Ministry has also stressed the need to speed up the evacuation of qualified Afghan citizens.

The ministry said about 15,000 Afghans had worked with German forces in Afghanistan over the past two decades, and that another number of vulnerable Afghans would be evacuated.

Germany had evacuated about 5,300 people from Afghanistan during the military evacuation. It has also evacuated about 5,000 more Afghan nationals following an emergency evacuation process.
