About the new immigration plan of the USA:
The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has announced a cap of 125,000 immigrants for the fiscal year 2023. This year, the United States was only allowed to welcome 125,000 tons of immigrants.
While advocates for immigrants’ rights have consistently called for an increase in this amount, the United States has maintained its existing cap on the number of immigrants it will allow.
Over 40 years ago, the initiative to admit American immigrants was launched. The previous president of the United States, Donald Trump, has lowered the cap on immigration to the smallest amount possible (15 thousand tons). Less than 20,000 immigrants have been allowed under this scheme in the fiscal year that ends on September 30 despite Biden’s decision to double the cap on immigration during his first year in office. Through the extraordinary humanitarian program, 100,000 nationals of Afghanistan and Ukraine also came to the United States this year; they are not part of the immigration program, and their stay is only temporary.
The US immigration policy offers a route to obtaining permanent residency here.
In a statement, Biden said that imposing a cap on immigration at 125,000 is acceptable in light of humanitarian considerations and is in the best interests of the United States.
Next year, 40 thousand Africans will participate in the program welcoming immigrants from the United States, and 35 thousand South Asians.
