About The Hild Domin Scholarship Program:

The Federal Foreign Office provides funding for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which oversees the “Hilde Domin Programme” scholarship program (AA). The initiative supports international students and doctorate candidates who run the risk of being legally or informally denied educational or other privileges in their home countries and gives them the chance to start or finish a study or research degree at a German higher education institution. Students and doctoral candidates who are nominated and approved under the program will be enrolled in degree programs in any subject they choose and in accordance with their individual qualifications. They will also receive a scholarship that is sufficient to pay for the expenses incurred during their study or research stay.

Scholarship details:

  • Program Degree: bachelor’s, Master and Ph.D. degree.
  • Location: Germany.
  • Nationality: international students.
  • Type of scholarship: fully funded.

Application and Nomination time:

Planned start of studies in the summer semester of 2024:

  • Nominations: until 15th March, 2023.
  • Application period: 16th March until 29th April, 2023.

Planned start of studies winter semester 2024/25:

  • Nominations: until 15th September, 2023.
  • Application period: 19th September until 27th October, 2023.

Scholarship eligibility:

  • With the exception of human medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine, students and doctoral candidates from all academic fields are eligible for nomination.
  • who can convincingly show the nominating institution that they face a threat to their personal security or well-being (such as physical harm, arrest, revocation of their civil and educational rights, etc.).
  • who, according to the Anabin database, has academic credentials that permit admission to a higher education institution and support the pursuit of a desired higher education degree
  • They may not at the time of nomination already be residents of Germany or the European Union.

Benefits of the Scholarship:

  • a scholarship payout of 861 euros per month for undergraduate and graduate students, and 1,200 euros per month for doctorate applicants.
  • A travel allowance is covered by health, accident, and personal liability insurance, according to your country of origin or current residency.
  • participating in a two-, four-, or six-month preparatory German language course in accordance with the prior acquired and necessary language abilities for the desired course of study or doctorate thesis extra profits.

Note: Confirmation of admissions in a study course or degree program at a German higher education institution by the deadline date is required for nominations in the academic categories of fine arts, performing arts, design, visual communication, music, cinema, and architecture.

How to apply:

In order to be nominated for the Hilde domain scholarship program, students must first apply to a German higher education institution and get a letter of acceptance/admission.

  • The Hilde Domin Program scholarship is not something you can apply for on your own.
  • You must be proposed as a candidate by a body or group that has a legal presence in Germany.
