About Gates Scholarship:
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gave US$210 million to the institution of Cambridge in October 2000 to launch the Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme; this was the greatest single grant to a UK institution. In October of 2001, the first group of students moved into the dorms. Since then, the Trust has provided financial aid to more than 2,000 students from over a hundred different nations.
Each year, Gates Cambridge awards around eighty full-tuition scholarships to exceptional students from outside the United Kingdom so that they may earn a master’s or doctoral degree in any field of study offered by the University of Cambridge. About 25 grants will be given out in the US round, and 55 will be given out in the international round, with the vast majority going to doctoral candidates.
