Summary of the Job:
Hire solar energy engineers for the SESEHA project to aid in the execution of various renewable energy activities such as energy need assessments, site visits, system designing, developing technical specs, drawings, and bills of materials (BOQs), and monitoring of installation work. The engineers’ role would be to aid with the rollout throughout 8 provinces in Afghanistan.
Job responsibilities:
The consultants will assist the project officer and line manager in carrying out the following activities.
- Visit the proposed sites to get data on energy use, costs, future demands, and more. Also, take photos of the buildings and write up a report on what you find.
- The expansion site’s energy needs, such as its energy need, load, comprehensive bills of quantities (BOQ), drawings, and specifications, must be thoroughly evaluated.
- Take charge of the UNDP’s standard operating procedures for SES and GRM and ensure they are followed.
- Visit designated locations to verify, validate, and analyze acquired data before recommending an acceptable energy solution to fulfill the community’s energy needs.
- Coordinate with provincial and district health and education departments, as well as rural communities, to solve institutional arrangements linked to solarizing the selected public service buildings.
- To guarantee effective usage, administration, and control of any abuse or other dangers associated with solar systems, it is important to verify institutional arrangements with the beneficiaries and relevant executive offices.
- Undertake inspection of the items and collaborate with the suppliers for proper O&M of the systems.
- Accompany the contractor’s’s on-site visits to gather necessary data and to keep tabs on the contractor’s preparations for and progress on the installation.
- Oversee the solar panel installation to make sure it is carried out in accordance with the Purchase Order, the terms of the contract, and the required timescale.
- Provide technical assistance for the rollout of large-scale solar photovoltaic, institutional photovoltaic, and mini-grid projects.
- Create project timelines for project execution, including a list of key deliverables and milestones.
- Identify issues and look for solutions.
- Help create plans for keeping projects running smoothly and efficiently.
- Help contractors and suppliers by answering their questions and giving them direction while they work to fix issues on the job site.
- Take notes before, during, and after a project to document any problems, threats, or lessons learned.
- Keeping tabs on how things are going, evaluating outcomes, and reporting back monthly.
- All procedures, lessons learned, success stories, direct effect, and suggestions must be documented and communicated before, during, and after interventions in close conjunction with the project team, including donor requirements.

Job requirements:
Language:
- Possessing superior verbal and written English proficiency is necessary.
- Fluency in Pashto and Dari is necessary, and speakers must be very fluent.

Job Qualifications:
- Age and years in the field:
- Three to seven years of practical experience conducting energy needs assessments, developing and implementing energy systems, and supervising and monitoring their implementation.
- Proven track record of successfully implementing renewable energy projects, such as solar power installations.
- Proven track record of providing technical assistance for renewable energy projects while taking full responsibility for their outcomes.
- Expertise in designing photovoltaic (renewable) systems and optimizing system components to maximize energy output, particularly in the context of off-grid and rooftop solar installations.
- Experience with data collecting and energy usage is preferred.
- The ability to put AutoCAD to work in the real world is a plus.
- Experience with government, UN, and donor organizations in Afghanistan is an asset.
- Proven skill with PCs and standard office applications.
Education requirements:
• Bachelor or higher in renewable energy, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
