About LEE Program:
Any applications previously filed by Afghan nationals who worked in private security, including security guards, or who served as Afghan Government or military officials will be evaluated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade or the Department of Defense.
The Senate Inquiry on Australia’s Engagement in Afghanistan suggested a comprehensive assessment of the Afghan LEE Program. This review was to take place in 2021. Dr. Vivienne Thom AM was nominated to head the review by the government on November 10th, 2022. On March 20, 2023, Dr. Thom submitted her findings to the government.
Dr. Thom provided seven suggestions to enhance the quality of the Afghan LEE Program. The government is already implementing several of these suggestions. A further suggestion was made to enhance the planning of future LEE initiatives.
