Australia is set to grant asylum to 16,500 other Afghan citizens over four years.
The federal budget has been approved to accommodate another 16,500 Afghan citizens.
According to the Guardian, the government will spend 666$ million over four years to implement the new plan.
The Guardian reports that the government of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, under internal pressure, has finally agreed to grant asylum to 16,500 other Afghan citizens.
Under the plan, another 4,125 Afghan citizens will receive asylum in Australia each year.
In total, Australia is set to grant asylum to 31,500 Afghans over four years.
A significant number of Afghans have also fled to Australia during the evacuation process following the fall of the previous government.
The Australian Government, which has played an active role in Afghanistan for the past 20 years, has been under pressure to grant more Afghan citizenship.
