About the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF):
There will be a call for applications for the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) in Canada that year. The University awards more than $2 million annually in graduate fellowships to outstanding students pursuing a master’s degree or doctorate degree.
Applicants with extraordinary intellectual ability and academic success are eligible for the scholarships. Students seeking a UMGF must be recommended to the FGS (Faculty of Graduate Studies) by an appropriate department or unit. Since the MBA, MFin, and MSCM do not need a thesis or research paper, they are exempt from the UMGF.

Scholarship eligibility:
- To be eligible for this grant, a student’s cumulative GPA must be 3.0 or above upon acceptance. Inquire more; your division could have a higher minimum GPA criteria.
To be a recipient:
- Have been accepted as a Master’s or Ph.D. student at the University of Manitoba. No Occasional or Pre-Master’s students will be considered.
- They have no admission-related holds on their student account during their provisional admission period.
- Be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at the institution that recommended them for a UMGF.

Scholarship duration:
- Master’s level UMGF prizes range from $14,000 per year for 12 months to $28,000 per year for 24 months.
- Ph.D. fellowships from the UM Graduate Fund (UMGF) may be up to $72,000 in value and last for 12, 24, 36, or 48 months at $18,000 per year.
- Awards are granted to departments or units that fulfill the eligibility requirements in the eligibility table and determine the award’s value and duration.
How to Apply:
The application method and due date for the UMGF may be found by contacting your respective department or unit. Once the appropriate division has chosen a deserving student, they will propose them to the FGS. A formal notification letter from the Faculty of Graduate Studies will be sent through electronic mail to the winners of the awards.
