The International Experience Canada (IEC) program enables youths to take trips and work in Canada for a maximum of two years. The IEC offers three types of programs, Working Holiday, Young Professionals and International Co-op (Internship) program.
The International Experience Canada is a governmental scheme that assists young adults gain significant foreign job experience, improving their language abilities in English and French, working in Canada, and funding the journey of a lifetime.
There are three main types of work and travel adventures provided:
Working Holiday program
This category gives short-term employment authorization to young people so that they can legitimately live and do business in Canada.
This category is for those:
- Candidates who do not have a job offer.
- Those who wish to work for multiple employers in Canada.
- Those who want to work in multiple locations.
- Applicants who want to earn money for vacation.
Young Professionals program
This category is aimed for international young people, specifically postgraduate college students, who want to advance their careers by acquiring professional work experience in Canada.
This category belongs to individuals:
- who have a job offer in Canada that contributes to their professional growth.
- Those who will work for the same employer in the same area during their stay.
- This category requires work to be paid position and not self-employed.
International Co-op (Internship) program
This category is intended for international individuals who are enrolled in a college or university in their home country. Candidates are required to finish an employment or internship in Canada as an element of their studies and have to be enrolled in courses during the internship period.
This category is for those:
- Who are a student enrolled at a post-secondary college or university.
- Individuals with a job offer for a work placement or internship in Canada.
- Those who need to conduct the job placement or internship to complete their education.
- During your time in Canada, candidates will work for the same employer at the same location.
Eligible nations for International Experience Canada and the categories for which they are eligible
Eligible countries and the categories for which they are eligible are given below.
If your nation is not eligible for International Experience Canada, you can still apply through a recognized organization (RO), which are approved organizations that provide job and travel opportunities to young people. They may be non-profit, for-profit, or educational. Most need a fee for their services.

How to Apply
Individuals may submit applications to IEC themselves or contact a registered organization (RO) for assistance before and during their experience. ROs are Canadian-based organizations that assist foreign nationals and Canadian young adults in working and traveling worldwide via IEC.
